When it comes to self-tanning, I have to admit, I’m a creature of habit. Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Foam Dark has been my go-to for as long as I can remember. I haven't tried any other self-tanners, so I can’t compare it to others just yet, but I feel no need to because this one works so well for me. In fact, trying a new self-tanner feels like a bit of a gamble — what if it goes wrong? (I mean, no one wants to end up with that dreaded Oompa Loompa look, right?).
In the summer, I use this product about once every two weeks, and it gives me the most gorgeous, natural-looking brown glow. It’s so easy to apply, and the color develops quickly, which is exactly what I want for a beautiful, sunkissed skin tone. I also use it on my face, and I have to say, it works great there too. No streaks, no orange tones — just a flawless, sun-kissed glow all over.
The application process is super easy. First, I give the can a good shake, then spray the product onto a tanning mitt (which is a must — don’t skip this step!). After that, I just work the foam into my skin, making sure to blend it well. The only annoying part is that you need to let it dry in the air before getting dressed, which can be a bit of a hassle, especially if you're in a rush. I usually leave it on for about 6 hours, then hop in the shower to rinse off the excess. So, if you're using this, you need to plan a little ahead of time for the drying and development process.
One tricky part for me, though, is applying it to my back. That’s impossible to do on your own! You can’t reach it properly, so it’s always a challenge to get an even application there. I know there are special back applicator brushes for this purpose, but I haven't tried one yet. It’s definitely on my to-do list, though, because it would make tanning your back so much easier!
That said, there’s one downside: breakouts. Unfortunately, I've noticed that Bondi Sands can sometimes cause me to get a few pimples or clogged pores. It’s not a constant issue, but every now and then, I'll notice some congestion around my chin and forehead after use. Of course, the downside is that I spend the whole winter working to clear these up and get my pores back to normal (check out my routine for dealing with that here). But, honestly, it's a small price to pay for such a beautiful tan.
Overall, I love Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Foam Dark and will likely keep using it until I finally get around to trying something new. The tan it gives is just too good, and it’s been reliable for so long. If you’re looking for a dark, natural-looking tan that’s easy to apply and doesn’t leave you orange, I highly recommend it — just be mindful of any skin sensitivity you may have.
